Across Anatolia and Thrace, Türkiye combines plateaus, mountains and coastlines facing several seas. Istanbul recalls intersecting routes and inheritances, but regional cultural life extends far beyond that city. Turkish, Kurdish and other communities contribute languages, music and celebrations. Iznik ceramics, with floral compositions and characteristic colours, represent workshop knowledge connected to Ottoman arts. Turkish coffee carries its own social symbolism. Prepared in a small pot called a cezve, it accompanies hospitality, conversation and certain family ceremonies. Serving it brings together skilled gestures, crafted objects and attention to guests. Food differs between the Aegean, Black Sea and Anatolian interior. Olive oil vegetable dishes, fish, layered börek pastries and stuffed vegetables called dolma belong to different repertoires, while kebabs have numerous local forms. A shared breakfast often brings several small preparations to the table with bread and tea. This arrangement lets diners taste things together and expresses a seasonal, place-based culinary culture much broader than the handful of specialities best known abroad.
