In the Pacific, Tokelau consists of Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo atolls, where villages occupy narrow land between lagoon and ocean. The coral environment has shaped resources and close community relationships. Faka-Tokelau, the Tokelauan way of life, centres family and community, with linguistic and kinship connections to Samoa and Tuvalu. Songs, fatele dance and oral narratives transmit memories, including among communities living elsewhere. The canoe represents practical maritime knowledge. On Atafu, construction draws on kanava wood and the expertise of a master carpenter. Inati gives sharing a particularly visible form by organising the distribution of food, especially fish, among families. It is therefore an eating practice and a social value at the same time. Fish and coconut are important in recipes, while sea transport introduces other provisions. Household preparations differ according to catches and available supplies. Collective meals bring lagoon resources, fishing techniques and obligations towards others into the same everyday setting, showing how food and cultural organisation remain closely connected on these distinct atolls.
