Between the West Bank hills and Gaza’s coast, the Palestinian territories contain different urban, rural and maritime histories. Traditions also continue among displaced communities and across diasporas. Tatreez embroidery places trees, flowers and birds on garments through patterns whose colours and arrangements can evoke regional origins. The craft is both technical knowledge and an expression of memory. Dabkeh, a rhythmic group dance, accompanies weddings and celebrations, giving social bonds a visible form. The olive tree represents farming, attachment to land and family continuity, although it cannot stand for every aspect of cultural diversity. At the table, musakhan brings together bread, chicken, onions, olive oil and sumac. Maqluba combines rice and other ingredients in a preparation turned out for serving. Gaza’s food traditions give fish and local seasonings their own importance. Several dishes belong to a culinary space shared across the Levant. Harvesting, bread making and family meals transmit skills and recipes whose variations follow villages, towns and individual life histories, sustaining cultural connections through changing circumstances.
