Moldova extends between the Prut and Dniester rivers through a landscape of hills, villages and vineyards. Romanian speaking traditions coexist with those of Gagauz, Ukrainian, Russian and other communities, with distinct regional histories. Mărțișor, a small token associated with red and white thread and offered at the beginning of spring, expresses good wishes and attention to loved ones. This practice also belongs to several neighbouring countries. Woven carpets transmit patterns, techniques and family connections, while circle dances give festivities a collective form. Cellars and viticulture recall seasonal work and rural exchange beyond the experience of tasting wine alone. Mămăligă, a maize preparation, accompanies cheese, cream or other foods. Plăcinte are pastries filled with savoury or sweet ingredients, with varying recipes. Vegetables, soups and preserved produce complete meals. Welcoming people at the table highlights garden crops, household preparation and the social life of family occasions. Together these practices reveal cultural continuity through everyday skills and relationships.
