In the western Pacific, Guam combines coasts, plateaus and villages with a longstanding Chamorro history. Spanish, American and Asian exchanges have also transformed cultural life without removing the importance of recognising Indigenous heritages. Latte stones, stone pillars topped by rounded capstones, recall the supports of earlier buildings and now serve as references for Chamorro memory. Language, dancing and family narratives provide other means of transmission beyond architectural remains. Village fiestas bring relatives, music and food preparation together, with customs belonging to particular communities. Kelaguen combines a main ingredient, often chicken or fish, with citrus and aromatics according to different recipes. Red rice gains its colour from a characteristic seasoning and accompanies many meals. Grilled foods, sauces and local products complete large festive spreads. Bringing a dish and preparing enough for visitors demonstrates collective care. These gestures connect Chamorro recipes with family encounters and influences circulating through the island, allowing familiar food to carry both inherited knowledge and the individual choices of contemporary cooks.
