Algeria reaches from the Mediterranean shore to Saharan oases, with landscapes and cultural histories changing across coast, mountains and desert. Arabic-speaking and Amazigh communities contribute many musical, craft and family traditions. Raï, especially associated with the west, turns everyday experiences into song. Among Tuareg communities, the single-string imzad accompanies poetry, linking instrumental skill with oral memory. Neither expression stands for every region; together they reveal the country's cultural variety. In Tlemcen, ceremonial clothing and the knowledge required to make it preserve a distinctive wedding heritage. Jewellery and pottery likewise carry designs associated with particular workshops and places. Cooking offers many forms of couscous according to vegetables, meat and season, within a culinary tradition shared with neighbouring Maghreb societies. Chorba, a fragrant soup, and homemade breads accompany family meals. Dates and pastries are offered with tea or coffee during visits. Preparing and passing these dishes allows hospitality to emerge through practical gestures, conversation and time spent around the same table.
