When Organic Food Helps Me Keep Up My Pace
Article
In LaBouffe, I talk above all about what truly nourishes me, not just what fills me up. For me, organic food is neither a decorative gesture nor a stance I would adopt simply to make a plate look pretty. It is a way of cooking and eating that fits the pace of my work as a tattoo artist, my sometimes long days, my late returns after a concert, and my very simple need for a meal that makes me feel good without overwhelming me. I love organic foods when they retain their flavour, texture, and a sense of obviousness: a seasonal vegetable that still feels alive, a properly cooked egg, a dense loaf of bread, a warming soup, a yoghurt chosen without getting lost in unnecessary extras. I look for food that is clear, comforting, and honest, because I feel better when I know what I am putting into my body and why I am choosing it. I have also learned to respect my appetite instead of contradicting it. Some days, I want something very gentle, almost reassuring; at other times, I need a more generous dish, especially after giving so much to others. Organic food helps me maintain that balance without putting pressure on myself. I do not want to eat with guilt or as a performance; I want to eat attentively, with pleasure, and with the sense of safety I try to create everywhere else in my life. That is probably why organic food speaks to me so strongly in LaBouffe: it supports a way of living that is calmer, more respectful of everyone’s rhythms, and more faithful to who I am when I finally take the time to sit down and eat.
